久しぶりにGeorge Lewisを聴きます。
彼は1900年7月13日、New Orleansに生まれ、16歳からクラリネットを始め、1917年（歳が分かり易い）にLee CollinsがいたBlack Eagle Bandに参加、1920年代はBuddy PetitやKid Rena 、さらにKid Oryなどのバンドで働いたという。
1930年代のはじめ頃、Bunk Johnsonが参加していたEvan ThomasのBlack Eaglesに加わるがEvan Thomasがステージで殺害されたのをきっかけにジャズから離れ、港で荷物運びをして生計を立てるようになる。
1942年、Bunk Johnsonがリバイバルブームで再発見されると、そのバンドのクラリネットとして起用される。
1949年にBunk Johnsonが死ぬのと前後し、George Lewisは自分のバンドで演奏を続け、1950年代の後半にはヨーロッパを旅行し、1963年に初来日（その後64年、65年と続く）。
1968年12月31日New Orleansにて死去。
