1922年6月10日Minnesotaにボードビリアンの父親、ピアニストの母親の末っ子（3人姉妹）として生まれ、1929年に2人の姉と共にガム・シスターズの一人としてデビュー。
歌手としては素晴らしい才能を現したが、実生活は悲惨なものでした。
1969年6月22日睡眠薬の過剰摂取で死去。
